Other Works by Yamashita

Once you have finished going through the mystical world of
Tropic of Orange and decided that you just cannot get enough
of Yamashita's writing, try her other books.

This book is about a Japanese family who relocate to the northwestern corner of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Throughout the story, five different people describe the development of Japanese immigrants in Brazil. Mostly, it deals with Japanese assimilation to the Western culture.

This book bares many similarities to Tropic of Orange because of their complicated story lines. Here, we meet several different characters who ultimately meet at a mystical place in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest but for different reasons. If you enjoyed different story lines that all connect and make sense at the end of the story, then you should read this.

Yamashita tells the story of Japanese immigrants living in Brazil who decide to move back to Japan in search of factory work. But going back bring some complications because of the reverence for things that are deemed "purely Japanese".
